Our First COVID-19 Holiday

Homemade apple pie

In 2020, we adapt.

COVID-19 took away my favourite holiday. We should have been in North Carolina enjoying copious amounts of food and beverages in the company of what we call our “chosen family”. This tradition has been going since before I was born, and this is the first year we had to cancel.

But we adapt.

My husband knew how disappointed I was. He went to the farmer’s market on Friday while I was at work, and he planned a feast. I made apple pie (a thanksgiving must-have), and he spent the afternoon making a faux-turkey with stuffing. We shared a bottle of wine and played virtual trivia with our besties.

It was a nice evening. Not what we planned a year ago, but we adapt.
